Requirements

Oak Point University Academic Technology Requirements

As part of the Oak Point University mission to integrate technology into all academic programs, all students are required to maintain a Personal Laptop (or MAC), and to have their device before classes start*.  

Below are the minimum recommended technical requirements for students at Oak Point University.  

Recommended PC Hardware Configuration:

We strongly recommend a computer fewer than 3 years old

  • Processor speed: 1.8 GHz Minimum; Recommended 2.5 GHz or higher
  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM Minimum; Recommended 8 GB or higher
  • Hard drive:125 GB or higher
  • Wireless Adapter (Wi-Fi) Mandatory
  • USB port(s); USB 3.0 recommended
  • Screen resolution set to 1024X768 or higher
  • USB Flash drive for data storage/transfer; 512 MB or higher recommended
  • Integrated Web camera
  • Integrated microphone

Mac Hardware Configuration:

  • Processor: Intel 1.33 GHz or higher
  • Operating System: Mac OS X - 10.14 or higher
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM Minimum; Recommended 8 GB or higher
  • Hard drive: 125 GB or higher
  • Wireless Adapter (Wi-Fi) Mandatory
  • USB port(s); USB 3.0 recommended
  • Screen resolution set to 1024X768 or higher
  • USB Flash drive for data storage/transfer; 512 MB or higher recommended
  • Integrated Web camera
  • Integrated microphone

Software:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Oak Point provides access to Office 365 which includes these software packages.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Adobe Flash Player
  • QuickTime Player – Mac Users Only
  • Windows Media Player – Windows Users Only
  • Up-to-date anti-virus software (free or paid)
  • Compression (ZIP) utility software
  • Internet Browsers: Google Chrome, or Safari (for Mac users)

The computers must be restarted within 24 hours prior to any exam to ensure updates are installed.  It is the student’s responsibility that their computer meets the requirements and is ready for exams. The Information Technology team is available for assistance.

* Students must have administrative rights to their computers to install and update programs, browsers, etc. A computer owned by an employer is not recommended.
