This guide was created during April 2021, which is Autism Acceptance Month.
This guide will explore the health care needs of patients who are autistic, and how to respectfully treat them as a nurse or health care professional.
Autism Acceptance Month
April is Autism Acceptance Month! This month is dedicated to spreading awareness, sharing resources, and encouraging inclusivity for members of the autistic community. For more information, check out the Autism Society website.
Famous Autistic People
- Temple GrandinTemple Grandin is a professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University and author of several books, including Thinking In Pictures and The Way I See It. She is a strong advocate for people with autism and an expert in animal behavior.
- Greta ThunbergThunberg is a Swedish environmental activist who is internationally known for challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation (Wikipedia).
- Satoshi TajiriAs a child, Satoshi Tajiri was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. He had a strong passion for bug collecting and arcade games. As an adult, he would go on to create the Pokemon franchise for Nintendo.
