Charter Communications, Inc. announced in May 2020 the creation of Spectrum Scholars, a two-year educational program for eligible rising juniors with financial need who identify as Asian/Pacific Islander, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American. Charter will select 20 students, who will each be awarded a $20,000 college scholarship to be used over the course of their junior and senior years. Students selected as Spectrum Scholars will participate in a structured, two-year program that will focus on professional development. Beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year, students also will receive a Charter mentor and the opportunity to explore an internship at Charter, one of the nation’s largest broadband and connectivity companies. Application period closes June 30th, 2020.

UNCF manages various scholarship programs and each program has its own eligibility criteria, open/close dates and required documentation. To apply for a UNCF scholarship, you must apply through the on-line application process.

The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) was organized in 1971 under the leadership of Dr. Lauranne Sams, former Dean and Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama.

NBNA’s mission is to provide a forum for collective action by nurses to investigate, define and advocate for the health care needs of African Americans and to implement strategies that ensure access to health care, equal to, or above health care standards of the larger society.

Black Nurses Rock is largest online community where professional Black nurses share, network, and develop together. Black Nurses Rock's Facebook secret group has over 174,000 active African American nurses and students from the USA, Canada, Eastern Caribbean, Japan, and Germany.

Over one million RNs will be needed to support the need for healthcare in the US by 2020. There is a growing need for RNs from different backgrounds and specialties to connect with the growing minority populations. African Americans tend to have less access to healthcare and disproportionate rates of illness compared to the majority whites.

The Black Star Project (TBSP) is a non-profit, action-based organization founded in 1996 to provide educational services that improve the lives of less-advantaged Black communities and to close the racial academic achievement gap. TBSP accomplishes its mission by educating, organizing and mobilizing parents and volunteers, and working with community partners to facilitate a wide variety of solid programs, high-visibility campaigns and other special initiatives.

The Awakening Center is an outpatient private practice; our professionals use a variety of therapies and have the compassion necessary to guide you on your journey to recovery. They treat children, adolescents, men and women regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race
or ​religious affiliation. Some therapists have a limited number of payment sliding scale appointments.
