Oak Point Library: Peer Tutors & Study Skills

Study Skills

Peer tutors are current Oak Point students who were exactly in your place a few months ago. When they are in the office, they are located in the Resource Center at Oak Brook.

Email the peer tutors anytime at: PeerTutor@oakpoint.edu

Tips from Peer Tutors

  • Do as many practice exams as possible! Some questions tend to repeat themselves and the content is similar from exam to exam so it is a great way to get good exposure to what you will see on the actual test day. Nursing school is about test taking skills almost as much as content.
  • Study in groups of 2-3 people. Any more can lead to more of a social event, instead of focused group work.
  • For auditory learners, listen and watch all available modules (when applicable)
  • Make flashcards of things you're having a hard time remembering
  • Make study guides! Do you know of study guides from upperclassmen? Those might help too!
  • Seek help from the peer tutors!
  • Read the questions carefully and choose the best answer. Don't freak out if you don't know what the drug is or what the mechanism of action is. You might not need to know that to answer the question. Utilize the nursing process accordingly in situational questions like those.
  • But it is important to just do the question and move on. Don't waste too much time and energy on one question.
