Reading/Writing Support: Writing Websites and Resources

Resources, information, and links to help you improve your writing!

Writing Websites

Here are some websites that should keep your mind focused on what is grammatically correct when writing papers, care plans, presentations, emails, cover letters, and much, much more:

  • Purdue Owl for APA: User-friendly, basic material that walks you through APA step-by-step. Please note this will not be updated until Spring 2020 for APA 7th Edition.
  • Purdue Owl for Grammar: The OWL also has grammar and punctuation tips.
  • APA Style Blog: New with 7th edition examples!
  • edufind.com: This site is actually a place to search for English schools; however, it also has an easy-to-use grammar guide.

Why should you care about your writing skills? Let us count the ways:

1. Resume

2. Cover letter

3. Correspondence with other nursing professionals

4. Bad writing and common mistakes can alter someone's opinion of you.

5. Bad writing can lead to misinformation or misinterpretation of your intended message.

Practicing good writing skills is not only important as a Oak Point student but good writing skills will help you make connections, find jobs easier, and excel better as a nurse than one who has bad writing skills.

Let's face it: even native English speakers trip over English grammar periodically. We recommend glancing at common errors that everyone makes regarding the English language. You never know what you might learn!
